Electric ignition was first introduced in the 1960s and spurned the Electra Glide name. Early versions were powered by the Panhead V-twin, later to be replaced by the more reliable Shovelhead. For bikes of this ear consider regular replacement parts like gaskets, seals and bolt and nut kits when restoring engines to their former glory, or updated piston kits, newer cams, revised transmission parts, updated regulators and clearer instrumentation if going for more power, cleaner shifting, and worry-free starts. Also change the controls, get comfier seats and consider suspension modifications if out on longer rides.
